F.A.Q.
Where are you located?
-We are in Shelbyville, KY, and will go anywhere between Louisville and Lexington for sessions (and farther, in special circumstances!).
Do you shoot in-studio?
-Typically, we prefer to shot on location. This allows us to meet the client halfway, and opens up a wide selection of scenery for a backdrop. For fashion/model photography we can bring the model in or travel and set up a studio on site. For businesses, we set up a travel studio at the work site.
Do you take walk-ins?
-Our schedule can get pretty full, so at the moment we are by appointment only. This also helps us give our full attention to each session, resulting in better pictures and a more personalized photoshoot.
Do you do anything outside of your listed styles?
-Yes! While we primarily do portraits and families, we can bring our skill to different types of photography as well. We only keep a handful of our most recent work from a few select styles to keep the site from becoming cluttered, but we can and will do more!
If you are looking for something specific, send us an email so we can get that information to you, and possibly set up a session.
I’m an aspiring photographer and would like some training, do you hold workshops?
-Not at the moment, but we are willing to do specialized one-on-one training. Send us an email if you’re interested, and we will set up a meeting to see if our instruction is right for you!
While we primarily work with beginners, we can do lessons for intermediate photographers as well.
Why is your blog geared towards other photographers?
-Mainly because we enjoy photography and want to share that joy with others! While we cover a variety of topics, Free Form Photography is meant to help anyone take better pictures, whether it’s for a family vacation or how to do a professional photoshoot. We occasionally use it to tell more about ourselves, but we feel more people will benefit if we keep it more focused.
Why is photography so expensive?
-There are a number of reasons, but it’s primarily because of how much time goes into each session. Aside from the time spent behind the camera, there is time spent testing light setups, finding locations, and editing photos. Photography gear is also fairly expensive, as are the courses and workshops needed to master photography.
All that aside though, it’s about maintaining a high standard of quality and ensuring that the business is sustainable. Sure, there are cheaper photographers, but a consistent standard of high quality isn’t going to be cheap. There are also more expensive photographers, if you are looking for someone who specializes in a single style and is a well known photographer. We do our best to keep prices fair, but we also need to maintain our gear and education to provide the highest quality and service possible.
